Mysterious and strange, the sound of a wandering soul passes through you. Foreign yet familiar, no fear grazes your heart. Rising, falling. Trembling, yet still. You are a million miles away, but have never felt so at home.
Oft described as the most mysterious band in Long Beach, Koibito arrives at the shores of GRN+GLD bearing their eagerly anticipated second offering to the world.
In 2018 they burst into our hearts with their signature fusion of ambient, indie, and electronic music, which was only reinforced by their immaculate and unrivaled on-stage presence. Exactly 3 years from the day of their debut release, the shrouded duo returns to us sounding more polished and refreshing than ever.
Sounds of muted guitar, stuttering flutes, pulsing house music, and swirling synth lines intermingle like reunited friends; casually flitting from conversation to conversation. Pangs of hope, bravery, and dedication pulse through the sun soaked strums of 'Tempranillo.' The crystalline keys of title track 'Dote' lull us into a cavernous relaxation, as the flowing flute leads us gently by the hand into the arms of the awaiting drums. We are graciously reunited with standout track 'Caturday Pt. 2' from their introductory EP, "Elian," and the new recording allows the song's effortless synergy of downtempo, post-punk, and precious indie-pop to shine brighter than ever before. Heart wrenching and endlessly cool, 'Reishi' shows us what would happen if Grimes or Peaches took a left-turn into the liquid drum&bass room at the rave and never left. While unanimous live favorite, 'Mount,' rounds out the EP on a thunderous note.
All in all, this is Koibito. 'Elian' was a lovechild. Koibito are lovers. 'Dote' is to show affection. Koibito is here to remind us that to wonder can be easy.
Never alone, never lost.
